Welsh Government Statement on Bridgend Blaenau Gwent Merthyr Tydfil Newport

Cricket Wales notes the Welsh Government’s announcement of today, Monday 21 September, regarding new local Coronavirus restrictions in four Welsh counties, as well as enhanced measures in Caerphilly, which is already in local lockdown, alongside Rhondda Cynon Taf.

At 6pm on Tuesday 22nd September, new restrictions will begin in the following Borough Council Areas:

  • Bridgend
  • Blaenau Gwent
  • Merthyr Tydfil
  • Newport

These restrictions will mean that, in these areas, from tomorrow: People will not be allowed to enter or leave these areas without a reasonable excuse, such as travel for work or education. People will only be able to meet people they don’t live with outdoors; They will not be able to form, or be in, extended households. All licensed premises will have to close at 11pm. Everyone over 11 years old will be required to wear face coverings in indoor public areas – as is the case across Wales. ·

Caerphilly Borough’s existing restrictions will be added to, with all licensed premises also having to close at 11pm, meaning that all Local Authorities in Wales in local lockdown will have the same regulations.

While, as we understand it, organised sports participation, which is undertaken in line with the current laws, the above travel restrictions, and adhering to the relevant NGB guidelines, should not be directly impacted by these restrictions – as long as facility providers are happy to open their venues - Cricket Wales will of course continue to monitor this situation and further communications will be released as we are updated by Welsh Government, the Local Authorities themselves, or Sport Wales & the Welsh Sports Association.

We would like to remind all our participants and followers of the importance of following government advice to restrict the transmission of Coronavirus and to help protect our communities.
